ONE BLUE NORTH REVIEW
RUSSELL BATES INCIDENT
You little champion Rusty, you have done what most of us have felt like doing on numerous occasions. Last Saturday I could quite easily have thrown the jack into the Indian Ocean and not missed it one bit.
February 4, 2008 ROUND ELEVEN REVIEW
DOUBLEVIEW MOVE TO THE TOP OF THE LADDER
After Round 11 we see Wanneroo surrender top spot since very early on in the season. This occurred following their loss to the powerful Stirling outfit whilst at the same time “the View” demolished a disappointing Bedford by 30 shots.
Warwick 89 (6) (5th) def Scarborough 74 (2) (6th)
Not for the first time this season the leading rink in the competition skipped by Brian Friend with outstanding assistance from his team continued to lead the charge with 28-13 win for the “Magpies”.
His demolition of the rink skippered by Michael Murray was clinical. The Murray team were never in the match. The other Murray (Tim) also found that a severe shortage of good bowls in the head thwarted any thought of a win and a 14-22 loss flattered a couple of the players on the Scarborough rink.

Steve Stokes Scarborough (pictured) Has had a good season for the Seagulls
Geoff Stevens and Elliott Taylor were standouts for the visitors whilst skipper Vince Giuffre also played some telling “up shots” to remove a lonely bowl.
Brian Axford picked a lazy six (6) on the last end to win 26-22 for the “Seagulls” whilst Steve Stokes continued his consistent run with 21-17 win over Evan O’Sullivan.
Doubleview 92 (7) (1st) def Bedford (62) (1) (9th) (9th)
Not too many surprises here with the exception of David Crook beating the very much in form rink skippered by James Wholohan.
One good reason for the winning performances of late is the leading of Dave Twohig pictured here on the right
Eddie Johnson, Gary Nelson & Winton Langdon all recorded thumping wins. Doubleview are the most consistent side in the competition so I would not have expected anything less.
Stirling (80) (7) (3rd) def Wanneroo (62) (1)
The fast improving Stirling machine needed to win this one or they certainly would have had to give up the notion of finishing on top thus guaranteeing promotion. Wanneroo could have extinguished that hope but were found wanting by the home side.
The move of Dinko Golem to Mark Pasalich’s rink has been a masterstroke with them destroying all before them week in and week out. This week’s victim was Doug Watson who recently was the leading skipper in this division. The score line 28-10.
Alan Erceg is relishing the skipper’s role with a 3-0 record this time over the strong Echo Widermanski team.

Andy Tucker beat Derek Bowen 16-13 in a tight one whilst Mike Broad smashed Tony Krajancic 26-10.
Andy Tucker Stirling (pictured) has been a valuable player for Stirling since crossing over from Sth Perth
As mentioned last week I played in a team that played Tony two weeks ago and you could not have beat him with an axe.
His draw and drive were faultless. Two days later they named the State side and he was not included. Coincidence or disappointment. I think the latter may have some bearing on a drop off of form.
Osborne Park 88 (6.5) (8th) def North Beach 82 (1.5) (7th)
The “Saints” kept there survival chances alive with a great win against “the Blues” at North Beach. This is a terrible result for North Beach who will now have to beat some of the top sides to avoid that dreaded relegation.
All games were close but Ben Poggi’s 27-20 win over Brian Werndley proved the difference
Sorrento 77 (6) (4th) def Morley 66 (2) (10th)
Sorrento won as expected by not with any great authority. Neil Adams and rink won the game for Sorrento with a 32-13 annihilation of his Morley counterpart.
Morley will be demoted. However, I am more concerned about the form of Sorrento. They have gone from equal premiership favourites to a team that may not make the four.
My selections for this week
Round 12
Bedford to defeat Morley (First Round Bedford (8-0)
Sorrento to overcome North Beach at Sorrento. (First Round Sorrento (7-1)
Scarborough to upset Doubleview (First Round Doubleview (6-2)
Stirling to win against Osborne Park (First Round Stirling (6-2) (2 shots)
Wanneroo to bounce back at home against Warwick (First Round Wanneroo 7-1)
