ONE BLUE NORTH REVIEW

December 4, 2007 ROUND FIVE REVIEW

Well after years of trying I finally nailed 5 out of 5. For most of you that would not be such a big deal but I think it is about the first time since I started writing for the Bedford BC webpage three seasons ago.

The one thing I would definitely not have picked is the Wanneroo rink of Derek Bowen getting beaten. Honestly DB, you blokes need swabbing.

After the weekend we see Doubleview, Wanneroo & Sorrento dominating with Stirling starting to circle. Scarborough got a welcome boost up the ladder and whilst it is probably too early in the season to predict such things it appears trouble is looming large for Morley, Warwick & Bedford.

Doubleview 103 (7.5) def North Beach 73 (0.5)

This was a bad loss for the “Blues” at home with the rink skippered by Eddie Johnson taking Brian Werndley to the cleaners to the tune of 30-13.

In addition “Bomber” Haring in his first game as skipper had a commanding 27-16 over the previously well performed Mike Vitale rink.

Gary Nelson fell in against Geoff Devenish whilst John Coles salvaged a draw with Winton Langdon.

Scarborough 71 (7) def Morley 66 (1)

This was a very good win for Scarborough as we trailed for most of the journey. Barry Powell’s rink was down 0-6 and then 7-12 before going into the last end leading 19-12. Scarborough leader Graham Archell was simply outstanding all day.

Brian Axford also did a great job after replacing the unavailable Michael Murray by coming from 11-18 down to win 21-19.

It was just the tonic the “Seagulls” needed and a good win away from home.

Joe PordanWanneroo 81 (6) def Osborne Park 77 (2)

Nothing in this game as the “Saints” continues to impress. However, on this occasion they came up a few shots short.

New Wanneroo skipper Joe Pordan proved the difference with a 22-14 over the underrated Ken Sutcliffe

Sorrento 63 (7) def Warwick 61 (1)

I would be interested to know if a side has ever scored 63 shots (less than 16 per rink) and come away with 7 points in an 84 end game.

I certainly do not recall it ever happening. The major difference between the two clubs was the Neville Gibbs led rink over John Mather’s team of 23-14.

Stirling 93 (7) def Bedford 57 (1)

Stirling dusted off the cobwebs with two rinks namely those led by Tom Norac & Tony Krajancic moving into overdrive to record 31-9 & 22-9 wins over Joe Hofgefang & Dave Crook respectively.

Bedford champion Barry Gartrell made a welcome return for the “Bulls” by goring Mark Pasalich 25-12 to claim Bedford’s only point.

As much as they would love him there I think “Gart’s” services are required by the top side.

My selections for this week

This week has two sensational matches:

Doubleview at home to Stirling.
This will tell us a lot about both sides and I look forward to seeing the result. I am going for the home side.

Sorrento vs Wanneroo
Both these teams are genuine promotion chances. This game is a toss of a coin job and it came down Sorrento.

Scarborough will beat Osborne Park (just).

North Beach must win at Morley and I think they will.

The loser of the Bedford – Warwick clash is in serious trouble. A third of the season will be behind us and it will be difficult to come back from last to finish higher than 7th. I think Warwick will win.
