ONE BLUE NORTH REVIEW

November 19, 2007ROUND THREE

Doubleview 90 (6) def Scarborough 83 (2)

Stan CurtisTo my mind the difference in this aggregate was my old Mines Rovers Football Club President, Stan Curtis.
Stan has not only bathed me but handed me the towel to dry myself off with. Whilst I think I probably played the worst game of pennants I have ever played, Stan was at the other end of the spectrum, probably not playing 5 bad bowls all day.

I really felt sorry for Michael Murray as he turned over down almost every end despite the great play of Scarborough’s Peter Thomas. After that game I really feel I owe Scarborough something because if it was not for my insipid performance I truly believe the “Seagulls” would have won. I promise I will repay them.

Eddie Johnson continued his stellar season whilst Barry Powell & Ron Kuziela were too good for their opponents. That having been said, congratulations to Doubleview who occupy top spot.

Wanneroo 70 (7) def Warwick 61 (1)

Echo WidermanskiI did not pick this one but am not surprised to see John Mather have a win. He was in splendid form last week and this week he beat a very good player in Derek Bowen. For the “Roos” Doug Watson remains unbeaten and Echo Widermanski set the scene with a good nine shot win. Wanneroo have been somewhat of a surprise packet this season and are moving along very nicely.

Sorrento 87 (7) def North Beach 73 (1)

The “Swans” sent the “Blues” to the bottom of the ladder with a solid 14 shot win at North Beach. The difference between the two sides was Neil Adams 8 shot win over Mike Vitale and the unbeaten John Hammond’s rink 6 shot win over Brian Werndley.
The “Blues” face a must win game this Saturday at Bedford.

Bedford 74 (8) def Morley 61 (0)

A great day for the Bedford club in general. I would have liked to have seen the odds about their first two sides winning on Saturday but that is exactly what they did. The win takes some pain away in the short term at least but Morley must also now be very concerned about the possibility of finishing 7th or lower

Stirling 75 (6) def Osborne Park 73 (2)

Whilst Stirling got the lion share of the points at home I think there is somewhat of a moral victory by the “Saints” in winning on two rinks and only falling two shots short of winning the aggregate. Tom Norac’s rink produced its best effort for the season with a ten shot win that in the end made all the difference.

My selections for this week

Scarborough to inflict Wanneroo’s first defeat.

Sorrento at home to beat Stirling

Warwick to take the points against the underrated “Saints”

Doubleview will trounce Morley

North Beach will reverse its fortunes with a win against Bedford.
