The final of the Doubleview Master Pairs finished this evening at 8.35 PM

The winners were David Opie and Travis Simpson who defeated Stein Davies and Ted Alden .
It was a very close game with the score 14/9 in favour of David/Travis on the 10th end, things tightened up even more so with Stein/Ted coming back hard to level the scores at 16/16 on the 15th end.
Congratulations to Both David/ Travis for winning this event and to Stein/Ted for their great performance to be runer up.

--------L/R: David Opie and Travis Simpson winners of the 2008 Doubleview Master Pairs
---------------------------------David Opie & Travis Simpson
David Opie and Travis Simpson made the semi - finals in 2005--here is what Sherro said about their performance at the time
"Dave Opie and Travis Simpson did very well to get to the semi-finals, they will win the big one some day soon, unfortunately they were a little unlucky at times but they did run into a brick wall and never looked like they could win after 6th end... Well done to get that far Fellahs."

Travis Simpson has improved dramatically in his bowling ability since Sherro saw him last. Travis is now the real deal and he was impressive dealing with difficult situations. David Opie has had a great couple of years, winning many important events and has truly stamped himself as one of the best players to ever play in W.A

---------------------------------Ted Alden and Stein Davies Runner up 2008

----------------------------------Ted Alden & Stein Davies

Stein Davies and Ted Alden had a hard road to the finals. Their scores from all games were
12/10, 11/10, 12/11, 14/13, 16/15 and lost the final 16/19. They are a hard tough never beaten pair of players. They were so good in the many pressure situations they faced, I can only say that everyone who watched these two players would have learnt much from their endeavours

It has been a sensational day starting off in the morning game between Pat "Bullseye" Buller/ Prickles Thorn who were playing Daniel Trewhella and Rod "Rocket" Heaton. This game appeared to over and done with as Pat and Prickles were leading 12/1 on the 9th end of a 15 end game, their lead was 15/5 on the 13th end and only two ends to go to get the job done.
Pat and Prickles deserved their lead and looked certainties to win. Well that is one of the things about bowls and shows it is never over till the last bowl, because the unbeleivable happened.
End 14 saw Daniel and rocket pick up a 3 to move the score to 15/8. and then they collected 7 shots on the 15th end to draw the game at 15/15. On the extra end Daniel and Rocket got the one shot to record an unbeleivable result. Ahh well I guess that is Bowls

As we said earlier it has been a great day with all games choc full of interest. The standard was so high and the skill level as good as you would wish to see

When I arrived the score between the Wanneroo Wizard, Clive Adams and the Jones Boy was 14/7 the Jones Boy's way starting the 11th end. From here The Wizard had to respond to some real pressure and were forced into shot play where he and Lance Strahan did a fantastic job. Back to the draw saw them both just so good. Lance certainly won the battle against Greg Kane in these most important last ends. You could see the game slipping away from the Jones Boy and that is what happened with victory going to The Wizard and Lance by sheer volume of topshelf bowls.

The big game between Daniel Trewhella/Rocket Heaton VERSUS Stein Davies/Ted Alden was a ripper of a game. It always seemed that no matter what Ted/Stein did Daniel Trewhella would fix things up with a drive or draw. Rocket was leading a treat and held the edge over Ted who was bowling a great game, End after end Rocket was on the job with all 4 bowls and was probably the best player in the game. However you just cannot underestimate what Stein Davies can do and I must say he is an awesome bowler who will not give in. he has all the shots and is very accurate. The game was looking safe when the score was 7/2 on the 7th end for Daniel Trewhella while Stein was wondering how he could hold the shot or shots they might have had.
Well Ted Alden started to be pinpoint with his bowls piling on so much pressure while Stein Davies just lifted another notch on his already great game to make this such an interesting and exciting game.
With two ends to play Stein/Ted down 8/12 picked up 2 shots to make it 10/12 then picked up 3 shots to win the game. It was Steins last bowl on the wide hand drawing to the peg and the ditch, he drew the third counter to hit the front for the first time in the game. Daniel drove and just missed
Not a bad sort of comeback/fightback to be behind all thru the game and hit the lead with your last bowl against outstanding opposition
You would give the players 10 out of 10 for their display of skill and temperament
