The Mount Lawley consistency singles was won by a brilliant Lance Strahan(Bedford)
in a wonderul contest against a man who gave his all, Glynn Vaughan. (Cockburn)
This was
the best game of the whole event. The drawshot power of both players was
of the highest order. Consistency, the keyword word ,was very consistent.
Lance
was always just ahead, mainly because of his devastating shot play. When
he had to call for the doctor it always produced a result. Glynn on
the other hand rarely played an attacking shot and when he did it was not
rewarded. That was the main difference between winning and losing this fantastic
game, one that would stack up as one of the best ever played in the Mt Lawley
Consistency Singles.
Pictured L/R: Glynn Vaughan--- Lance Strahan.
The margin was nearly always 10/20 shots with the Glynn forced to play catch
up most of the game, and my word he forced the issue many times, about the
closest he come to Lance
was 121/129 and on another day he would surely have won but for the quality
play of Lance who used aggression that was on the money at the right time
and got the results.
This result should force the State Selectors hand and include him in the
State squad of 24. Lance has been runner up in the State Pairs last season,
and now winning this event has to force the issue, time for some one in the
squad to make way
for this talented
player.
Bill Galloway (State Selector) was in
attendance to see this magnificent game, and he would have been left with
no doubt about the ability of the players that played.
Glynn Vaughan who is 60 years of age and it really shows it doesn't matter
what your age is in bowls, might ask the same question of the State Selectors
because
he was terrific under
the
pressure
and would
have
been
very
happy with
his
game.
Congratulations to both players for providing such a great contest.
The equal thirds were Osborne Park's Daniel Trewella (pictured
at right) who
lost to Lance 97-123
and Wanneroo's Russell Bates ( pictured left) who
lost to Glynn 79-120.
Yesterday Russell Bates and Hilton Park player, David Opie were just brilliant
in their game and up till todays outstanding game was the best game of the
series

They (me) said Lance would never make it, definetly couldn't win the Consistency.
Here is what Sherro said in his preview. Well there is nothing better than
being wrong on this occasion. Well done Lance Strahan.
223. Lance Strahan --Lance has never won a singles
event of any type (except
for the two bowl handicap singles in Mukinbudin) and he won't win this
event. Could go well, but a lot of heavy traffic to get thru to make the finals,
However we are aware that Lance has been runner-up a few times in Club Championship
Singles games in extremley high standard games, so we know he will be very
competitive.
