A MAN’S MAN and a REAL CHAMPION
HENRY SLAWINSKI aka “THE WOG”
We congratulate you Henry on an outstanding career in lawn bowls. At about 63 years of age and despite a recent significant bout with throat and lung cancer– here you are today out playing top class bowls and winning.
From our days on a footy field in Wagin to the greens at Melville yesterday you are one of the most talented and competitive sportspeople I have ever had the pleasure to know.
Returning to the greens of Melville where you once represented that club so proudly and effectively as one of their top skippers in Red Division, it was a pleasure to see you and your team mates win the Seniors State Triples Championship this year.
To achieve this on top of you recent bout with health - stands solid testimony to the Great Spirit and fight you have been blessed with.
You remain one of a small handful of people who were never capped for State Duties and although that must have been disappointing for you – it has been taken in your stride and you simply just move on.
Your inclusion in the inaugural State Seniors side was a masterstroke by our selectors – as your performance throughout that series stands testimony to your great skill and your strong team spirit was always beyond reproach.
Those who have been fortunate enough to have played any sport with you or who have been able to count you as a friend must consider their own lives enriched for that opportunity.
Yesterday Wog, it was great to watch you do what you have always done best in you life and that is to compete hard and produce at your best when the going gets tough.
Well done Henry Slawinski – your are a great mate and a true champion.

Among the many highlights over the years, and there have been many, one that Sherro remembers was the Peter Sardelic Legends game held at Cockburn in 2005. Peter was gravely ill and we thought he might not make it..
Henry Slawinski came all the way from Wonthella just to be there to honour Mr Magic.
