Hi Sherro.

I have just read the minutes from a Bowls management committee meeting held on 11-01-10 & I would like to quote from General Business 8.1

KARDINYA SHADECLOTH

Letter received regarding the new shadecloth Hazard ( this is a first, we at kardinya did not realize that our Shadecloth was a " HAZARD " )

Apparently a player has fallen & injured himself because he could not see the bank under the shades . Of the thousands of bowlers that have played under our shades (& there is over thirty bowling clubs in the eastern states also ) we have never witnessed anyone falling let alone injuring themselves, I would say this person was possibly not looking where he was going at the time.

This letter came from a Thornlie bowler I hope it is not sour grapes( on his part alone) because of the great deal we got to be the first club in W.A. to put in shadecloth, apparently they had first option but some of their members voted against it in favour of a new " HOT " carpet green.

I would have thought that Bowls W.A. would have contacted us immediately they received the complaint, but no, the first we hear of it is when it is plastered all over the internet without any investigation or support that there is not just a Hazard but no it is a " NEW HAZARD " WOW!! at Kardinya.

Guess what happens now , the umpires committee now has to have a look, and after their expert opinion on the degree of light under the shades, they are to develop a policy on the use of shades during pennants :

I & I am sure a lot of other bowlers over the years have seen many players trip or fall over the banks in bright sunlight , it is called an accident ( no new policy for that)

Sometimes I wonder as to the motive of some people in our wonderful game

Thanks Sherro for allowing me to put across "my " point of view.
