G\'day, Sherro!
I thoroughly agree with everything Pat said in his letter. It's a ridiculous money-grabbing exercise, and counter-productive to our efforts to recruit new bowlers.
If the corporate bowlers are slugged with this fee, they'll simply stop turning up. If the clubs bear the brunt, it will discourage them from trying anything that might attract people to our game.
According to BowlsWA\'s constitution, their main purpose is to promote the game of bowls. I fail to see how this is going to further that aim.
Clubs that run programs like corporate bowls or who have social groups come in are trying to introduce people to the game, in the hope that they will join the club and eventually become pennant bowlers.
This can only benefit BowlsWA. Introducing a tax like this will work against that fundamental aim.
I have written a formal letter to the OPBC President and Executive asking them to get BowlsWA to stop this idea going ahead. I urge all readers of this site, from whatever club they hail, to do the same.
