Whilst I agree in principle with a heat rule, I think Saturday showed
there are flaws with the current system of depending on forecasts. Whilst
it was forecast to be 38, it didn't reach 38. So 5th and 6th div pennants
were, in my opinion, cancelled unnecessarily.
I would have thought that a better system would have been for pennants to
continue until a temperature of 38 is reached at the venue itself.
If at
that point, the required number of ends to constitute a match have been
completed, a result is declared.
If the required number of ends has not
been completed, the match is declared a draw.
Also, I do not agree with broad cancellations accross entire divisions.
One need only look at today's temperature, whilst it is currently 42 in
the City, in coastal suburbs like Swanbourne, it is only 35.
The rule
should be applied at the club itself, not as a general closure based upon
city temperatures.
Also, I don't agree that only 5th and 6th div should have been cancelled,
it should either be all or none. 5th and 6th is not just limited to the
older generation, they are spread across all divisions.
Its not just the older generation who suffer in the heat. I am 39 years old and don't like the idea of playing in high temperatures either.
