Gday Sherro,
Last sunday I was confronted with the unfortunate situation of having a choice of 3 events to play in.
Namely The Yokine Box Allstars, Sorrento Master Singles or Doubleview Club Triples and this is not the first time this has happened and I'm sure there were many people in the same position.
The Sorrento singles the previous week also clashed with another club event I had promised to play in. I could almost guarantee that Sorrento Masters numbers would be bigger if not for clashes with other events.
It is disappointing that sometimes players have to miss certain events because of clashes during the year.
I know it may be difficult initially but I wonder if the association has considered the following.
To adopt fixturing which allows two sundays for the 4 club events - singles, pairs, triples and fours. Therefore all clubs play there club events at the same time. This is 8 weeks in a calendar that goes from late August to May.
Any major events (i.e. Masters and major carnivals such Box Allstars and Touch of Class) are to be applied for with a fee payable to the association which guarantees a place in the calendar. This fee could be very small - say $50.
For this $50 the club applying for the event would get promotion thro an upcoming events page in the Jack Hi plus on the Bowls WA website and more importantly wouldn't clash with club or other events.
$50 would be a small price to pay if it guaranteed getting a full field of entrants for an event. Just one extra team would probably cover that.
