One White review round five 4/12/05
December 4, 2005
Warwick
remains at the top of the table even after a comprehensive thumping from Scarborough
yesterday.
Hugh McKay brought Alan Hogarth’s winning streak to an end with a solid
13 shot victory to set up Scarborough’s 28 shot aggregate win. Warwick
will be disappointed with this result and will have to regroup for next week’s
top of the table clash with the in form Safety Bay.
Hugh McKay (pictured) Top line skip for Scarborough, has a huge win over the
previously undefeated Allan Hogarth.
North Beach took the major share of points from Kalamunda in the match
of the day. Veteran Derek Bowen and his rink led the way with an impressive 12
shot margin over Billy Brandsma and his boys. Once again it was left to Neil
Payne and Neil Griffin of Kalamunda to try and carry the aggregate. North Beach
have now strung together 3 wins and will be looking for a strong performance
when they travel to Scarborough next Saturday. Even if the Beach Boys stumble
in this match they are still my pick to finish on top of the table.
The Morley
team showed a vast improvement when they took on Kardinya away
from home. Albeit a narrow win, Morley would be thinking any win is a good
win after their indifferent start to the season. Experienced campaigner John
Armstrong recorded the only rink win for Morley but it was enough to ensure
that they came home with 5.5 points. Morley host Thornlie next weekend in a
must win match to keep their semi final hopes alive.
In what I believe was a
surprise result Safety Bay travelled to Thornlie and walked away with 7 points.
Evergreen John Biglin and the experienced Matt Massari
both registered solid wins to secure an unexpected victory for the southerners.
Safety Bay will be confident next weekend when they head up the freeway to
take on ladder leaders Warwick.
As expected Gosnells were far too good for the
depleted Innaloo outfit. Michael Yates and his rink showed the way with a comprehensive
29 shot rink win to
set up an easy overall victory. Big Bear Bairstow had a confidence boosting
13 shot rink win. Gosnells will be looking to make it three wins on end when
they take on Kalamunda in the hills next Saturday.
After 5 rounds we see Warwick
at the top of the table on 27.5 points however only 6 points separate 2nd to
8th spots.
Kempy picked 3 winners in round 5.
Tips for Round 6:
Kalamunda, Kardinya, Scarborough, Warwick, Morley.
