One White review round four 26/11/05
November 27, 2005
Crime Scene Investigators
have been called in to help search for 16 Morley players that have gone missing
over the last fortnight. Hosting
Gosnells, who had yet to bother the scorers this season, Morley once again
failed to fire a shot going down by 42 shots and 8 zip. The last 2 rounds have
not been kind to Morley with them returning an unimpressive balance sheet of
233 shots against, 119 shots for and zero premiership points out of a possible
16.
The losing streak will continue when they travel to Kardinya next weekend
and rather than having their focus set on winning promotion to 1 Red they will
be intent in avoiding relegation to 1 Blue.
Gosnells will have no problems
overcoming Innaloo next Saturday and will start to climb the ladder.
I spoke
to the Warwick’s inspirational John Mather last week and he
told me that he held a meeting with his team before round one. He told the
boys that he believed that there was little difference between the standard
of bowls played in 1 White compared to that in 1 Blue and to just go out and
play the same game that brought them success last season.
How right he was
with the Warwick Magpies winning their first 4 games and heading towards a
possible chance of next season joining the elite in 1 Red.
Yesterday’s
33 shot white wash of Thornlie has Warwick sitting one aggregate clear at the
top of the table and if they can beat Scarborough away from home next Saturday
I will install them as a short priced favourite to go all the way.
As predicted
North Beach took the points against Innaloo with Mal Dempsey and his rink showing
the way with a 15 shot win. Credit must go to the Innaloo
team for scoring 2 rink wins. North Beach will be looking to make in 3 wins
on end when they play Kalamunda in the match of the round next week.
Mel Dempsey (pictured) brings home the bacon for Nth Beach.
Kalamunda,
thanks to solid performances from the two Neil’s – Payne
and Griffin scraped over the line at home to Scarborough. The boys from the
hills have enjoyed a steady start to the season and I believe that when the
Eddy and Brandsma rinks start to perform Kalamunda will find themselves firmly
entrenched in the top 4.
I take my hat off to the Kardinya team. Winning down
at Safety Bay is no easy feat. As mentioned in a previous article “Watch out for the Tony Cocodis
rink”. Well his team has been ultra consistent notching up 4 wins from
4 games with plus 39. He and Alan Hogarth from Warwick both have perfect records
to date.
Kempy improved this week by selecting 3 winners. Will he ever pick
Morley again?
Tips for Round 4:
Gosnells, North Beach, Kardinya, Thornlie, Scarborough (All
home teams)
Kempy Comments on One White
After quickly looking at the clubs to compete in this season’s
Division One White, it appears to me that nine of the ten teams have a realistic
chance
of making up the top four. Unfortunately Innaloo with it’s depletion
in ranks may struggle. However in the past we have all been proven wrong and
it will be up to the team at Innaloo to show heart and to use a cliché be “the
fight in the dog” and not “the dog in the fight”.
I will preview
games at regular intervals throughout the season but this will become an easier
task as I start to see the format of the teams after a round
or two.
Sticking my neck out at this early stage before a bowl has even been
delivered, I predict the top four in no particular order will be – Kalamunda,
North Beach, Gosnells and Morley.
Warwick will be a handful for many clubs
as will Safety Bay on their home greens.
Kardinya, Thornlie and Scarborough
will all be capable on their day and I hope Innaloo will stand up and be counted
considering their mass exodus.
TIPS FOR ROUND ONE
Warwick, Gosnells, Kalamunda, Scarborough & North
Beach
All the best to
every player.
