ONE WHITE REVIEW ROUND THIRTEEN
February 20, 2006
Gosnells v Morley
Hats off to Morley! After sitting precariously in 9th position
at the Christmas break the blue collar workers of the competition has put together
5 wins from
6 games in the new year and are now up there in 2nd spot and look threatening.
Gosnells skipper Neil Fitzgerald and his rink tried hard to steal the aggregate
for the home side but failed by the slightest of margins. Fitzgerald’s
18 shot rink win was just not enough to cover the Bairstow and Cruickshank
losses.
Peter Aungier with 8 wins and a draw this season and John Armstrong
with 8 wins have been an integral part of the success Morley is experiencing.
Morley host third placed Kardinya in the match of the round next Saturday and
Gosnells will retain their spot in the 4 with an away win against Innaloo
Kardinya v Safety Bay
Terry Ball smashing Graham Scott by 25 shots and Tony
Cocodis belting John Biglin by 17 shots was the ideal recipe for the Kardinya
lads to cement their
place in the top 4 at Safety Bay’s expense.
The Cocodis, Ball and Sweet
rinks have performed well this season for Kardinya but the 4th rink has been
far from impressive and this could be a telling factor as crunch time approaches.
Alan Holmes, Graham Scott and Matt Massari have been a model of consistency
for Safety Bay but selectors must be looking at the John Biglin rink that has
been far from impressive to date.
Kardinya travel to Morley next weekend in
what should be a block buster and Safety Bay should sneak over the line when
they host Thornlie.
North Beach v Innaloo
8 big juicy points and a 37 shot aggregate win by the
Beach Boys over Innaloo can only give confidence to the North Beach lads
as they plan a last ditched
effort to come home with a wet sail and secure a top 4 spot. Well North Beach
if you can do it I will personally come to the Beach House and buy every one
of the 16 a pint of beer of their choice.
North Beach must win at least 4 of
the last 5 games and hope that other results go their way to be a realistic
semi final chance. My thoughts lads – don’t cancel your planned
April vacation. The Beach Boys travel up the hill next Saturday to take on
ladder leaders Kalamunda and Innaloo will be at home to Gosnells.
Scarborough v Kalamunda
To quote Richie Benaud all I would like to say is “super effort Kalamunda”.
The win out at Scarborough last Saturday is in my view the most telling and
influential statement of the season. The victory has given the boys from the
hills a 5.5 point lead at the head of the table which incidentally is the biggest
lead since Warwick led by 7 points in round 4 way back on November 26th.
Rick
Eddy is firing a few shots at the business end of the season and his 6 shot
victory over Geoff White combined with Bustling Billy Brandsma’s 7 shot
win at Hugh McKay’s expense saw the Kalamunda lads bring home the bacon.
Scarborough must produce the goods in the last 5 rounds to be a chance of playing
final’s bowls. Kalamunda host North Beach in round 14 and Scarborough
travel to Warwick in what is a crunch match for both sides.
I firmly believe
that Kalamunda will not be headed at the top of the table from now on in and
this will see the boys from the hills back in the big league next season. If
this is the case I will seriously consider the offer of $1,000 per game, accommodation,
a female companion and drinks that Neil Payne and Neale Griffin are going to
offer me to travel from Mandurah to play for Kalamunda again
Thornlie v Warwick
This loss is a huge disappointment for Warwick! After seeing
the Magpies claw their way back into contention in round 11, two disheartening
defeats have
all but ended Warwick’s chance of finishing in the top 4. Realistically
Warwick must now try and avoid the second relegation position.
Likewise the
Ravens are also in that danger zone and would be happy picking up 7 points
last Saturday.
Alternatively if either of these 2 sides can win 4 of their
last 5 games the nature of the competition suggests that semi finals bowls
is not out of the question.
Warwick has the inconsistent Scarborough team to
contend with next Saturday and Thornlie head south to Safety Bay
