ONE WHITE REVIEW ROUND ELEVEN

February 6, 2006

Gosnells v Thornlie

The local derby turned out to be a bit of a fizzer. Gosnells were far too good for the Ravens winning on 3 of the 4 rinks and recording a 31 shot victory. Robbie Cruickshank and his rink continued their good form winning by 20 shots ensuring that the aggregate was never in danger. Father Bert lost only his second game for the year going down narrowly to the Sayer rink. Since assuming a skipper’s role for Thornlie, Sayer and his boys have recorded 5 wins from as many outings.
Next week sees Gosnells travel south to Safety Bay for the match of the round. Thornlie will host Kardinya in a must win game for both sides.

Kalamunda v Innaloo

Innaloo proved to be formidable opposition for the boys from the hills. One rink win and two drawn rinks apiece was an unexpected result but it was the Neil Payne led rink that carried the day for Kalamunda winning by 15 shots to counteract the 8 shot loss by Neale Griffin.
The win sees Kalamunda firmly entrenched in the battle for promotion and the 2 points that Innaloo picked up sees them reach double figures for the season. Kalamunda take on Warwick in round 12 in a crunch match for both sides. Innaloo will be at home to Scarborough.

North Beach v Safety Bay

Time for Kempy to eat humble pie! After blowing the trumpet for the North Beach boys all season I have finally jumped off the wagon. Not only will they miss the semis they will be relegated with Innaloo and will be playing in a division next year that matches the colour of their shirts. They are the “Vic Park” of one white unable to beat an egg or a drum! Well done Safety Bay you came, you saw and you conquered and now you’re sitting pretty at the top of the table.
The win over North Beach is Safety Bay’s 4th away win for the season – not a bad effort. Safety Bay will have to reproduce their impressive form if they are to beat Gosnells next Saturday. It doesn’t matter who plays North Beach next week just pencil in the major share of points for them now.

Scarborough v Morley

Morley, Morley, Morley what happened? I give you the biggest wrap since Makybe Diva and look what happens. Well hopefully it is only a minor hiccup. A timely 7 points for Scarborough sees them in the mix again but consistency is still required for the West Coast boys to be a realistic threat.

When on song the Kuziela, White, Powell and McKay rinks are as good as anyone going around but form lapses have been costly this season. Scarborough will be too strong for Innaloo in round 12 and Morley will just have to turn up to beat North Beach.

Warwick v Kardinya

The Magpies didn’t let me down last Saturday with an impressive win over ladder leaders Kardinya. The 7.5 points sees Warwick sneak into 4th spot and the loss has Kardinya now dangling precariously in 5th spot.
I would rank this as Warwick’s best win of the season with Brian Friend, Alan Hogarth and Elliot Taylor all recording solid wins. John Mather and Tony Cocodis had an epic struggle to share the point on that rink. Warwick goes up the hill next Saturday to take on 2nd placed Kalamunda and Kardinya also travel away where they will face Thornlie

WRAP
Our third ladder leader in 3 weeks! After round 9 it was Kalamunda, after round 10 it was Kardinya and after round 11 it is Safety Bay. Who will it be after round 12 is anyone’s guess! The top 4 all play each other next weekend – Safety Bay v Gosnells and Kalamunda v Warwick. Every bowl counts from here on. The pressure is well and truly on and the toughest will survive.

Kempy picked 3 winners in round 11 taking his tally to 35/55 for the season.
