ONE WHITE REVIEW ROUND TEN 29 /1 /06

January 30, 2006

Innaloo v Warwick

Warwick has regrouped and is back in the winner’s circle. I would have expected a more comprehensive victory over Innaloo but a win is a win. Once again it was left to Alan Hogarth, who is having a stellar year, to carry the aggregate with a massive 31 shot rink victory.
The Magpies will be able to gauge exactly where there season is at when they host the new ladder leaders Kardinya in the match of the round next weekend.
Innaloo will have to look at fuel prices to assess whether it is worthwhile travelling to Kalamunda for round 11.

Kardinya v Gosnells
It was an absolute nail biter in the match of the day. A single shot victory and 5 aggregate points to 3 has Kardinya sitting at the head of the ladder for the first time this season.
Big Bear Bairstow and the two Scottish Terriers, Bert and Robbie Cruickshank, all recorded comfortable rink wins for Gosnells but Terry Ball spoiled the party by walloping the Mulcahy rink 31-10.
Tony Cocodis failed in his bid for a Bo Derek (10/10) when he was beaten by 5 shots. Gosnells play Thornlie in the local derby next Saturday with Kardinya taking on Warwick

Morley v Kalamunda

Morley has put its pedal to the metal. Whatever they had over the Christmas break – I want some of it. 22.5 points out of a possible 24 in the last 3 rounds sees the blue collar Morley lads just 0.5 of a point from the top of the table.

I did expect Morley to win this one but certainly not by 29 shots. Billy Brandsma salvaged half a point for the boys from the hills. It may seem a pittance but with the closeness of the competition every little bit will count in the final wash up.
Morley go the beach next Saturday to take on Scarborough in a must win match for both sides. Kalamunda may well retain top spot if they can account for Innaloo.

Safety Bay v Scarborough

Quiet achievers Safety Bay kept plodding on with a comprehensive 26 shot victory over the inconsistent Scarborough Beach Boys.
Although splitting the rinks, the margins on the Safety Bay winning rinks ensured the aggregate win. Safety Bay travel to North Beach for their round 11 clash and are a realistic chance of coming home with the bacon. Scarborough must beat Morley next Saturday if their semi final and promotion aspirations are to remain.

Thornlie v North Beach

The Ravens are on the move. A solid 13 shot, 6 points to 2 victory over the ‘promise so much - deliver so little’ North Beach side sees Thornlie ready to swoop on the teams sitting just above them.
A positive for the North Beach team was the win of Mal Dempsey and his rink over the strong Les Carruthers combination. I’ve had a close look at the structure of the North Beach pennant set up and it appears that there is not much for the selectors to draw from in the lower divisions.
The 2nd division white side is languishing in 9th spot, the 3rd division silver team is sitting 8th as is the 4th division yellow team. Hardly the resume for ‘Club of the year’. North Beach must, I repeat must defeat Safety Bay in round 11 and if Thornlie can get over Gosnells it may well be headed for the finals.

WRAP
Only 8 points now separating the 1st and 9th teams. It is anyone’s guess who will win promotion and who will drop out with Innaloo.

Kempy picked winners 3 in round 10 taking his tally to 32/50 for the season.
