Cunderdin bowler Silky Wilkins won the Country Week singles defeating Eaton's Gordon Jones 21 - 17.
Silky had a hard road to hoe to make the final having to play a couple of very good players, He defeated Neville Woods then climbed over a very impressive Glen Dunn to make the final
Gordon also didn't have an easy game against the 2006 Champion Henry Slawinski, that game could have gone either way. He had the call over
S. Kahala from Comet bay.
To make the final he beat Geraldton's Colin Morgan 21/0 which is quite a victory and a surprise really because Colin was in great touch the day before.
The game between Silky and Gordon saw Gordon
shoot out to a 9/0 lead with some great bowls while Silky wasn't silky at all. He was on struggle street and Gordon was poised to have another stunning victory.
Gordon got out to lead 13/2 and to be honest Silky was on the ropes, or so we thought.
From here Silky chipped away
and managed to get the score looking better at 17/10 down but still looking unlikely to win.
At this stage is where Gordon could have kicked himself because he played the worst four bowls he has probably ever played. Two in the ditch (one of which knocked one of Silky's in the ditch) one 15 ft short and the other only a tad closer
The score was now 17/13, it appeared that Gordon was tiring and was playing well below the high standard he had presented for most of the games he had played, it has been a long 8 days
From here Silky went on and won 21/17. He had scored 19 shots to Gordon's 4 from the time he was 13/2 down.
Congratulations to both players and well done after 8 demanding days of competition.
Silky now has to continue on so they can complete the fours final
