Bassendean Bowling Club

Fred Fortesque Medal 2012
May 15, 2011
The vote count for the Fred Fortesque medal for the Best performed player in the Premier League side was held recently, the results were as follows..
1. Justin Opie -------------168
2. Daniel Patterson-------167
2. Lynton Pike ------------163
4. Jamie Davies -----.-----162
WINNER
A wonderful result for Justin Opie to win the Fred Fortesque medal award in a season where he and his rink held their ground to help play a leading role to see Bassendean remain in Premier League when for the majority of the season they appeared to have no chance
Justin has always been a value plus player who has stuck by the Club thru the good and not so good times for Bassendean and has played a key role for them since transferring from Victoria Park several years ago, one of the features of the rinks good performance was Justin taking Aaron Staples under his wing
The rink was very compatible and remained unchanged from midway thru the season which obviously helped to create consistency
SECOND
Daniel Patterson came in second and generally did a good job for his side, perhaps his finest game was against Osborne Pk late in the season where he played above and beyond to help seal an important victory
He also represented W.A for the first time in the Interstate sides series held in Qld at Broadbeach and did a good job of it
THIRD
Linton Pike another to have had an amazing season has obviously played his role as a second to be part of a good front end. Linton also capped off his wonderful year by being runner up in the Doubleview Master Pairs which is a pretty good performance in any ones book.
FOURTH
Every rink needs a good leader and Jamie Davies has delivered in spades in his first season as a Premier League leader. He and Linton Pike have formed into a formidable front end combination and can build further to that in the coming season.
