PLAYED AT YOKINE

---------------------L/R: Wayne Neilson and Gary Carberry

--------Wayne Neilson and Gary Carberry
A great game played by two terrific players in a high standard affair at Yokine

The final of the Champion of Club Champion singles Championship was won by a brilliant Gary Carberry from the Cockburn Bowling Club. He defeated an extremely talented player Wayne Neilson who hails from the Morley Bowling Club.

After the game I caught up with Gary and he was as in his own words " Gee I am thrilled as buggery mate, it is such a great feeling to have won such a prestigious event''.
It was obvious He was very delighted winning the title but did say that after getting away to a terrific start he seemed to lose his draw in the middle stages of the game but considered himself lucky to regain the earlier touch he had.. I asked Gary when he thought he might have had it in the bag and he said" Sherro you never have anything in the bag till that last bowl has been played but I did feel that it was looking good for me in the 20's". He also was full of praise for Wayne and the game he played " Wayne was a tough opponent and he was very good in this game."

Gary also pointed out that a player in his section Don Thompson from Tammin was as hard a game he had in the event and fell over the line in a great encounter winning 21/16.

The scoreboard reflected that, in as much that Gary after leading 9/1 after 9 ends and seemingly on the way to victory fell away and it was Wayne Neilson who upped the anti with a blistering comeback to lead 15/11 after the 16th end.
Wayne showed the spirit that great players have with a never say die attitude. Well at his stage we were not to know that Wayne was about to run out of gas because Gary found his earlier touch and let me say it was pinpoint. Wayne was playing a great game but was never close enough yet was always close to the jack. He was unfortunate that when a close bowl fell it always fell away from the head.
Gary stormed away to win a hard fought final and was a more than deserving winner in a high standard game that he won 25/16.

Kieren Cousens Melville (pictured) done a mighty job to make it to the semi-finals

SEMI FINALS

Wayne Neilson (25) def Kieren Cousens (17)

Kieren Cousins did very well to make it right thru to the semi-finals, it has been a while since we have seen Kieren up in such a lofty position in an event as prestigious as this but he is only 26 years of age and to do so well here might be the start of bigger things to come. Well done Kieren

Glynn Vaughan looking very happy here after the best marking display in the final you could wish to see

SEMI-FINAL

Gary Carberry (25) def Glynn Vaughan (22)

This was as tough a game that you could imagine with the mighty lefthander Glynn Vaughan falling just a tad short in this game.
However how about the game Glynn played against Daniel Trewhella when after leading 10/1 and looking good suddenly he found himself confronted with an almost impossible task on his hands. Glynn was 19/12 down. The excitement machine had overrun him and was on the verge of a great victory. Well Glynn has other ideas and unbelievably won from that position having to turn a bowl in with his last bowl for shot at 20/20 to win 21/20. This is an extraordinary win considering the opposition.
Must say that is one Glynn won't forget for sometime.
