Results of the Thornlie Ravens Classic played over the weekend organized by Frank McGrath who is the best there is in the business and what a great job he continues to do for bowlers here in the West
30 top class sides entered this event to fight it out for the $2000.00 first prize
with overall prizemoney of around $5000.00
With names such as Reagan, Comrie, Evans, Butler, Strahan, Screech, Radford, Nicol, Bresland and Aden entering the event
it was always going to be hard work for the eventual winner
After the completion of the first day of this two day carnival the major scorecard showed 4 teams leading the field with just 2 shots between them and this was going make the following day an interesting and exciting one.
Talking with Frank McGrath about the event he said that the player who caught his eye the most was Graeme "Wings" Evans who skippered an Osborne Park side into second place.
His conversion rate was exceptional says Frank..
Thornlie's Geoff Burgess and his partner Rick Buckle caused an upset of sorts when they beat the more fancied Sth Perth pair of Ross Bresland and D.Lyons. That loss by the Sth Perth pair proved costly forcing them into 3rd place
Peter Jamison played with Rhett Butler in the pairs and was heard to say it was worth the $50 entry fee just to play in this event with and against such quality opposition.
Last but not least we have been told the lunches were outstanding and well done to the Thornlie bowling club people who provided them

Thornlie Ravens Split fours Men's Classic 2009
30 teams contested this event
WINNERS---------- $2000.00 -----------7 wins + 66 shots
Sth PERTH
Greg Reagan (skip) T. Percival, Steve Lunn Merv Hughes -
----
-
Greg Reagan has had a great season, He played so well to make it to the final of the State Pairs and was runner up with son Nick.
It also tells us much about the strength of this field when players of this quality enter the Raven's Classic
--
-------This pic of Greg Reagan was taken in the final of the State Pairs
Good to see Tony Percival along with Steve Lunn and Merv Hughes in the money, Merv has done particuarlaly well this season and never seems to be out of the money.
The boys lost only the one game for the event, congrautulation to the team who are very deserving winners
SECOND ------------$1000.00---------- 6.5 wins + 29 shots
OSBORNE PARK
Wings Evans (skip) Doug Eaton, Grant Nicol, Lionel Bell -- --
This is a good Osborne Park foursome and any side that has Doug Eaton playing in it has every chance of winning the event. Grant Nicol and Lionel Bell are others in the team who seem be in the money in carnvals they compete in quite often.
Having seen Wings Evans often in pennants this season it is no surprise to see him get a wrap from Frank McGrath and almost win this event
--
----------------Graeme "Wings" Evans in a recent pennant game
THIRD--------------$600.00-----------6 wins + 45
COMPOSITE
R.Bresland (sk) Nick. Reagan, John Morss, D. Lyons -----
The name John Morss is often in the winners section of bowling events around the clubs and carnivals that Frank McGrath organizes.
Again we see the strength of this rink wich includes two different State Pairs runner ups. Nick a month or so ago and Ross Bresland who was the runner up 2007.
A loss in the pairs proved costly, taking the team out of second place.
FOURTH------------$400.00 ----------6.5 wins + 29 shots
COMPOSITE
D. Radford(sk), B. Radford, Perry Sardelic D. Flintoff.
When is the name Radford out of ther priemoney? not very often and here we see to make sure it happens again. Darryl has his young son Baden playing three and yes that is Perry Sardelic the son of the best skipper there ever was, Peter Sardelic, and D. Flintoff who also plays with Kardinya
FIFTH--------------$300.00 ----------6 wins + 15
SOUTH PERTH
Ken Screech (sk) , Simon Alden, Ben Poggi, Russell Tyrrell
Here we have another good side when we see Ken Screech and Russell Tyrrell who were State Triples runner up in 2008 and Simon Alden who was a member of the State Fours winning combination
4 years ago. The boys did well to win 6 of the 8 games but not quite enough shots up.
