OSBORNE PARK NORTHLANDS MENS PAIRS

Another highly successful day at Osborne Park with Frank McGrath the best in the business, bringing together 42 top class combinations to contest the Northlands Men's Pairs. All in all a very successful day played on the best greens you would find anywhere. A credit to Richard Cox the green keeper.

There were some interesting results and one that caught the eye was the rink of Murray Bateman and Brian Hansen who were teamed together by Frank McGrath. Not the best rink in the event by any stretch of imagination but they were good enough to catch a very good rink out, that of Geoff "Gelignite" Gould and Keith Strahan, rolling them by 7/8 shots.

Another player who stood out was Justin Opie who had a real burster today according to Frank who gets around to watch a few teams in action thru the day.

Must add that Sherro is responsible for John Goddard being rushed to hospital after the games today. John suffered severe back injuries caused by carrying Sherro all day.
We hope John can recover in time for next saturday pennants but they did say it was the worst case they had ever seen for this type of injury

A great win for these terrific two players. They played some magnificent bowls in the game against John Goddard and Sherro. There wasn't much in the game (1/2 shots) but these boys know their stuff and it was no surprise to see them go on to win the event. Daniel Patterson played a top class game as did Kyle. Well done to you both.

There is nothing better than to see Steve Black who is a major sponsor of this website being in the prizemoney. Steve does a lot behind the scenes that many are not aware of. Great to see you do well Blacky but there is some doubt of your claims that you carried Justin all day.
Justin Opie who played magnificently all day and easy to see why he is the top skip in the One Blue North division.

Here is another placing in a big event for John Trewhella who had a pretty good record in these type of events and of course he didn't do all by himself, Well done to Steve Venables for doing so well, both boys were undefeated for the day.

Gary Caffell and Gordon King are a formidable pair and to go thru the day without a loss in a field of this quality is quite an achievement
