Congratulations to the Bedford Bowling Club for putting the famous Bedford Bowl back on the Bowls circuit after a two year layoff, the event attracted 24 teams for the two day carnival. The meals were terrific and the company great. It was a bubbly place to be at on Sunday.

Once again well done to Frank McGrath and the Bedford Bowl co-ordinator Peter Healy.

Unfortunately there were some late withdrawals for the event, very frustrating for Frank McGrath who does an enormous job to organize these events. Some who withdrew have done very well out of his events don't seem to take into account how disruptive it is and who they hurt. It is time for a fair go for Frank and the sides that turn up.

Some that were in attendance were legend Steve Srhoy, John Goddard, Billy Brandsma, Ken Screech, the Big Fish Keith Strahan, Doddy ?, John Winship, Mike Zusman, The Jones Boy, Chris Lander, Brad and Norm Ball while BowlsWA President Pat "Everywhere" Buller dropped in to have a bit of a squiz,

Coming into the last round there were two sides that could win the two day carnival, the Mills Park foursome led by skip Glen " Cooky" Sewell, Adam Daines, John Jermalinski, and Brian Davis, they had to win by one shot because they had a superior shots up, a loss would see them out of a prize, or Manning's Matt Mitchell's rink of Wayne Heldt, John Francisco and Blake Nairn in a similar situation
Maddie Clark
The Mills Park boys were drawn to play the Cambridge side of The Jones Boy, Chris Lander, Brad Ball and Norm Ball, it would be a tough task for any side to beat them and that is what occurred.

To their credit the Mills Park side were matching it with the Cambridge rink all the way thru and going into the last end led 12-11, if only they could hang on for one more end, the Bedford Bowl would be theirs. Unfortunetly they dropped a two, to lose 13-12.

The Mills Park rink had a terrific supporter who came to support and cheer for the team and was hoping like heck the boys could get over the line, tho disappointed the team lost, Maddie Clark was very proud of their performance.

Matt Mitchell's rink on the other green were getting a bit of a hurry up from Bruce Rock combination led by Paul Hutton when the score was 7-7 after 8 ends, from that point on they took control, not only winning the game but the event.

Three down Jonesy is the signal from Chris Lander in the exciting last round game at Bedford yesterday

WINNERS........................ 5 wins + 56 ------- $1800.00
MANNING
Matt Mitchell (sk), Wayne Heldt, John Francisco, Blake Nairn
Matt Mitchell went thru the event winning 5 of the six games, losing only to Sam Perica in the first game, as we can see it is a pretty handy side and especially when we see John Francisco who is the best performed skipper in One White over the last three seasons playing as a second it gives you some idea of how strong the rink is.

Wayne Heldt who is also no slouch on the bowling green made the winners speech and heaped glowing praise on the skip Matt Mitchell who he said played above and beyond. Blake Nairn is as keen as they come did his part to help the side to victory..
The sides Matt Mitchell's rink played.
Sam Perica 9-10, Peter Cole 17-4 , Kevin Smith 17-7, Gordon Gray 16-6, C.Graybrook 20-5 Paul Hutton 18-9.
-------------------------------------------------------------.Linton Pike playing well as a second
Linton Pike
SECOND........................... 5 wins + 28-----------$800.00
COMPOSITE
Daniel Patterson(sk), Daniel Nicholls, Linton Pike, Phil Hutchinson
5 wins is a good performance and losing to Ken Screech by 3 shots is what cost the side. Interesting to see young Daniel Nicholls playing 3rd to Patto. However a big win against the Jones Boy 4th game kept the side in with a chance to collect 1st prize. Well done to the side

The sides Daniel Patterson played
Ken Screech 9-12, Ross Beaman 20-9, John Ingram 17-14, Jones Boy 15-11, John Lynch 10-8, Ivan Perica 20-9

THIRD ...................5 wins + 21 --------------$500.00
COMPOSITE
The Jones Boy(sk), Chris Lander, Brad Ball, Norm Ball
Another good solid side here going thru winning five of their six games, the loss to Daniel Patterson was costly.
The rink was involved in a last match defining game, not only for themselves but for their opponents from Mills Pk.

The Jones boy won that game 13-12 to win 3rd place while the losers Mills Pk who had the 1st place prize money in the bag if they won, lost by 1 shot.
A good effort from the Cambridge boys

FOURTH ...............4½ wins + 58 --------------Four bottles Whisky
COMPOSITE
John Goddard(sk),Wayne Hartzer, Mike Dewson, Lewis Grigg
John Goddard has taken a young side with him into this carnival, Mike Dewson is the son of the famous Rance, a stalwart of the OP club. Wayne Hartzer has just recently broken into the PL side for OP and Lewis Grigg is a young player full of potential to become a top liner in the years ahead. They have done well and I hope they take their time drinking the Whisky. Well done to the side
