Preview One Blue South Round SIXTEEN
Saturday’s results were as expected with one notable exception in the game of the day Hilton Park easily accounted for Vic Park to the tune of 59 shots, Vic Park would have to be disappointed with that result, while Hilton must be overjoyed they are the form side at this stage of the season and considering the games coming up they would have to have the best chance of finishing on top.
In the remaining games Spearwood were too strong for Melville, Manning was too consistent for a desperate Midland, Osborne Park were far too good for good for Byford and Rockingham had too much class for Safety Bay.
Saturdays results demonstrated the gap between the top 5 and the rest, Midland were the only side to challenge a top 5 side, they must consider themselves capable of surviving the relegation zone, it may well come down to the last game of the season when they go to Vic Park this may be the decider for the drop zone.
Safety Bay v Spearwood
Safety Bay return home picking up one point against Rockingham in the local derby, while Spearwood picked up the maximum against Melville, Safety Bay always perform better at home so this game will be one they would have pencilled in to win; Spearwood will be desperate to win to give themselves a chance of taking out the coveted top prize something that has eluded them for the last 3 seasons.

Safety Bay have a consistent performer in the Michael St Jack rink however last outing against Tony Tuckerman they lowered their colours, Spearwood have had consistent contributions across the green with very good performances from the Tonko Fiamengo and Italo D’Ascenzo rinks, this game will test the Blue and Whites they have won at the Bay before even picking up a pennant flag in the finals some years ago, this will be a close encounter but the Blue and Whites will prevail
the result will be Spearwood 6 / 2.
Manning v Rockingham
Manning Eagles at home to take on Rockingham in the game of the day, last Saturday the Eagles landed on Midland and took out 6 important points, while the Rocky boys were at home for the local derby and picked up 7 equally important points, these two sides are very evenly matched.
In the first round the Rocky boys belted the Eagles to the tune of 35 shots to pick up the maximum count at that stage they were unbeatable, since then the wheels have come of the Rocky express Mr Reliable will have the Rocky train fired up with a full head of steam.
For the Eagles they know that a slip up at this point will not be in their best interest, they have three tough games ahead all against top three sides, they will be fully focused and Peter Bowden will read the riot act to his charges, I don’t expect the Eagles will play this game on their carpet so there will be no favours for the visitors.
Milan Jokic together with Bill Pengilly will lead the way for the home side while for Rockingham Tony Tuckerman will be the stand out with John Lethlean providing strong support this game will go a long way to determining the final result for the season the home side will just hold on to take the aggregate
the result will be Manning Eagles 6 / 2.
Melville v Hilton Park
Melville take on a form side in Hilton Park, last outing the Magic couldn’t take a point of Spearwood in a game that mid way through the contest kept everyone guessing, the Magic will have to regroup next season and try harder.
David Opie Hilton Park (pictured) Has had a top season and a great stat sheet to show for it and will be looking for promotion to One White for his club
Hilton Park on the other hand are in top form, they have won six on end and this will be number seven, the class of the Hilton side will be too much for the struggling Melville team, Hilton won by 59 shots against Vic Park in a game that should have meant a lot to the Reds, Travis Simpson’s 32 shot win together with Brad Balls 17 shot win will have been the talking point post match; this game will be of similar proportions for the Hilton side,
the result will be Hilton Park 7 / 1.
Osborne Park v Midland Morrison
Osborne Park will host a desperate Midland Morrison, the Ossy Park side trounced Byford in a one sided game last week to out score the home side by 57 shots, all the Osy Park rinks scored over 26 shots a very even performance in anyone’s language.
Midland on the other hand can count themselves unlucky to lose against top side Manning, they were holding the aggregate with one bowl to go when Milan Jokic played a bomb and trailed the jack into the ditch for the game. For the Midland side to continue in this division they must win this encounter, Vic Park will be at home to a struggling Byford and the Midland boys will be very aware of this taking place, the Park at home have lost games but this will not be one of them
The result will be Osborne Park 7 / 1.
Vic Park v Byford
Vic Park return home with a disappointing result last weekend, their season could be unravelling before their eyes, this game is critical to the Reds and they will be going all out to ensure they pick up maximum points. F
or Byford this game will be one sided they haven’t been able to match it with most sides and this game will not bring a turn around in good fortune,
the result will be Vic Park 7 / 1.
