PROMOTION GRAND FINAL
April 15, 2008

BRIAN BLAGAICH PREVIEW
The two sides that deserve to play off for the last promotion spot have earned it the hard way, either side could consider themselves unlucky following the wash out of the last game of the qualifying round.
The huge advantage for Manning is playing at home, this should be looked at by BowlsWA and corrected in the coming season, all games that determine promotion i.e. finals should be conducted at neutral venues, but that isn’t Manning fault and they deserve to be where they are now and will be fully focused on the battle to take place.
The final will be a tight affair, Manning were too good on Saturday, but saying that it was only 12 shots, I expect the Saints will be a lot wiser this time around. The key to Manning succeeding is Milan Jokic he continuously sets up the Eagles by dominating his rink, if the Park can contain him they will be well on the way to One White, fail to contain Milan and they will fail.
For the Saints proven strength across the greens will be a telling factor, they have the talent to cover one rink that is struggling, if two are in trouble they will be hard pressed to win,

the result will be the Saints will be marching into One White for 2008/9.

WANNEROO EXPRESS 83 (7) def HILTON PARK 78 (1)

Wanneroo showed the Southern zone just who is the strongest zone with a handy 5 shot win
The game had some of the best rinks from both zones involved and interesting to see the best performed rink in One blue North zone that of Doug Watson get across the line against the outstanding David Opie led rink by just the 1 shot.

Wanneroo's Derek Bowen and his rink took care of business with a telling win against the other Hilton Park gun rink that of Brad Ball 27/21 and to that is no easy feat. This was perhaps the most important rink win for Wanneroo

Wanneroo's rink of ? Broad had a very good win 24/10 against Hilton's Luke Garbutt to be the main rink scorewise to get Wanneroo the pennant

Hilton's Travis Simpson capped of a great year by overpowering the good rink led by Echo Widermanski with a monster win 29/13 and almost got Hilton over the line.

Congratulations to Wanneroo on their win and also their magnificent season where they were beaten just three times. Wanneroo will be a big player in the One White division next season. Well done to Hilton Park for their outstanding season also and only 5 shots away from victory shows how good they are as a team.

PRELIMINARY FINAL

OSBORNE PARK 117 (8) def SPEARWOOD 44 (0)
This is almost an unbeleivable score to see Osborne Park Saints overpower the Spearwood 16 who appear to have collapsed completely.
Keith Guelfi's rink has been the star rink over the day for the Saints. Unbeaten in the rinks 2 games and giving D`Ascenzo rink a drubbing winning 28/7.

Rance Dewson has has en enormous win against the best Spearwood Skipper and his rink over the past two seasons, That of Boris Yakas to win 28/16

Cliff Guelfi recorded an impressive victory winning 35/12 to lead the charge for the Saints while Doug Eaton and his rink werent going to be left out to complete the rout of Spearwood.

REPORT FROM BRIAN BLAGAICH
The afternoon green didn’t reach the heights of the morning games, in fact the Saints were in heaven after the first 30 ends, the Spearwood side didn’t live up to their expectations and succumbed to a much better side.
For the Park it was difficult to pick a dominant rink as they all played well, however special mention must be made of Keith and Cliff Guelfi they ensured the Saints would be playing the final and they richly deserve the opportunity to have another go at the Manning side.

For Spearwood the Boris Yakas rink jumped out early with Boris in his usual attacking form, it was to the credit of the Rance Dewson rink as they clawed their way back into the game and finish it of with a good win. The game didn’t reach any great heights due mostly to the dominance of the Osborne Park side which will set them up well for their last tilt at the Eagles.

SECOND SEMI-FINAL
MANNING EAGLES 77 (7) def
OSBORNE PARK SAINTS 65 (1)

Manning led from the start and it was catch up bowls for the Osborne Park side from that point on. The home side settled quickly with the Milan Jokic rink again providing the foundation for the side, Milan has had a top season with the Eagles and could play a large role in the final game today.

For the Saints Keith Guelfi was the stand out although Bill Pengilly didn’t let the score blow out.

The final score probably flattered the Saints as the Eagles dominated all day, Manning move into the final to be played today and with their home ground advantage it will be in their favour.

A good win to the Manning Eagles on their home ground to win by 12 shots. Manning were well served by Three rinks that had the measure of the Saints in this game.
Milan Jokic and his rink proved to be to strong for Cliff Guelfi's boys with a good 10 shot win
Greg Strachan has done a good job for Manning since taking over as skip and his got home by 3 shots against the reliable Doug Eaton led rink
? Francisco had a good win in a very hard fought encounter with the Saints top rink led by Rance Dewson with a 17/15 victory
Kieth Guelfi's rink drew the short straw having to play Bill Pengilly's boys. Bill's side are the best performed rink in the entire One Blue South division and to beat them on their home surface is indeed a win of huge proportions.

FIRST SEMI-FINAL
SPEARWOOD 86 (7) def
ROCKINGHAM 83 (1)

Spearwood jumped out quick in the morning, only to be pegged back by Rockingham, the Tony Tuckerman rink almost pulled of the victory, and it was a red letter day for Norm Pascoe he was in top form while the other three Rockingham rinks were playing catch up all day.

For Spearwood the stand out rink was Italo D’Ascenzo and his team of Nick Silich, Kevin Yakas and Dominic Salvetti, they set up an early lead that only got larger as the morning progressed, while for the Rocky boys Tony Tuckerman with John Sullivan, Brian Cowell and Norm Pascoe as his third were in irrepressible form.

The last few ends decided the game with Tonko Fiamengo and his rink holding solitary shots to earn Spearwood a shot in the PM game.

For Rockingham it would have been a disappointing game they once again had finals action only to miss out by the smallest margin.
